Know About Meil

Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) is a $5bn multi-sector infrastructure company from India taking giant strides globally.

Godavari Drinking Water Supply Project
Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme (GDWSS)

MEIL has executed several prestigious drinking water projects nationwide and abroad, setting up unbeatable records in the sector. It has constructed Asia’s largest water treatment plant under the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme (GDWSS). The Telangana Government has launched this scheme to cater to the drinking water needs of Hyderabad.

Project Execution

• The plant with a capacity of 735 Million Liters per Day (MLD) was established in Mallaram in Telangana.
• Water sourced from the Sripada Yellampalli project in the Peddapalli district, about 225 kilometres north of Hyderabad, is being treated at this plant.

• The water is being lifted to the Yellampalli project to a level of 131 meters and then further lifted to Ghanpur Reservoir to a height of 625 meters.

• The project work includes headworks, construction of a pumping station, power substation, pressure unit, telemetry unit, and a communication unit.

• The total distance from Sripada Yellampally to Mallaram Treatment Plant is 54.16 kilometres.

• Another pump house has also been set up in Bommakal of Karimnagar. The Yellampalli Project is lifting water to the Bommakal reservoir.

• For this, a pumping station was set up at Murmur. Nine pumps with a cumulative capacity of 1.5 cumecs were established.

• Through this pumping station, 148 million gallons of water from the Godavari are lifted to Bommakal Reservoir.

Overcoming Challenges

Through this project, water sufficient to meet the needs of Hyderabad is being diverted through Asia’s largest 735-MLD water treatment plant. The plant treats water from the Bommakal Reservoir and discharges it to the Medak Reservoir. In addition, a clear water reservoir with a capacity of 80 million litres and pump houses have been set up.

The works also include creating a delivery network from Mallanna Sagar Reservoir to Kondapaka Reservoir. For this, the MEIL has laid a 24.5-km-long pipeline with 3,000-mm thickness. The company established an 80-MLD clear water reservoir at Kondapaka under this package. A 220/6.6-kV substation has also been set up for the power requirements.

The treated water is being sent to the Ghanpur area near Hyderabad’s outer ring road. The MEIL has also constructed a massive Master Balancing Reservoir with a capacity of 150 MLD at Ghanpur.
