The Zojila Tunnel, under construction by MEIL Group, is a key infrastructure project for India - providing year-round connectivity between Srinagar and Leh at 11,578 feet, strengthening national defense, economic ties, and safe access across the Himalayas.
Recently, Chief Secretary, Ladakh, Shri Ashish Kundra IAS, visited the East Portal site at Minimarg, Drass, welcomed by Shri Arun Porte, GM, NHIDCL Kargil, and Col AK Shivkumar, Project Manager, MEIL. The Chief Secretary inspected the tunnel, interacted with MEIL engineers, geologists, and workers, and praised them for top-class professionalism, world-class quality, and strict safety protocols - emphasizing that worker safety must never be compromised despite progress demands.

Our teams achieved a key milestone, completing 6 km of excavation from the East Portal at Minamarg, Drass, and 6 km from the West Portal (Baltal side) with total excavation now standing at approximately 12 km out of the 13.153 km tunnel length, advancing this national priority toward breakthrough.
