The Godavari Delta, often called the Annapurna of Andhra Pradesh because it feeds the state with rich agriculture, is now entering a new phase of development focused on clean drinking water. MEIL group is leading a major mission to provide safe, potable water to the people living in the coastal districts. For many years, these areas have suffered because groundwater was polluted by aquaculture activities and increasing salinity, making it unsafe for daily use. Under the national Jal Jeevan Mission, MEIL is now taking up two very large drinking water projects to protect the health of millions of people.
A key moment in this journey is the foundation‑stone ceremony led by the Honorable Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Konidala Pawan Kalyan on 20th Dec 2025. This event marks the formal beginning of these life‑changing schemes for the Godavari region.
The new infrastructure includes two major water treatment plants. One plant, with a capacity of 186 million litres per day (MLD), will supply treated drinking water to the districts of East Godavari, Kakinada and Konaseema. The second plant, with a capacity of 155 MLD, will serve West Godavari and Eluru districts. Both plants use advanced rapid sand filtration and modern treatment processes so that each person can get about 55 litres of clean, safe water every day. This will greatly reduce dependence on polluted groundwater and provide a stable, high‑quality water source for households.
MEIL’s role is not limited to constructing these facilities; it also includes running and maintaining the entire system for the next 12 years. This long‑term responsibility will help ensure that the infrastructure remains in good condition.
From drawing water at the heart of the Godavari basin to delivering it through taps in every home, these projects aim to transform the idea of “Jala Andhra Pradesh” into a practical reality. MEIL group's work in the Godavari Delta shows how modern engineering can directly improve health, dignity and quality of life for people, while supporting economic growth in one of India’s most fertile and important regions.
