Know About Meil

Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) is a $5bn multi-sector infrastructure company from India taking giant strides globally.

Gujarat Refinery
Gujarat Refinery

The Gujarat Refinery, located 10 kilometres away from Vadodara, was established initially with a capacity of 2 MMTPA (Million Metric Tonne Per Annum). With over five decades of serving the rising energy demand, it has already evolved into a massive 13.7 MMTPA integrated petrochemical complex.

On the verge of high oil prices and tight crude supplies, refineries in India are boosting their capacities. The IOCL's Gujarat Refinery in Vadodara has undertaken 'upgrade and improvement LuPech(J-18)' work to raise the refinery's capacity from 13.7 MMTPA to 18 MMTPA. As a part of extension works, MEIL is involved in the construction of three key segments—Indmax Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) Unit and the CR LPG Treater Unit, Propylene Recovery Unit (PRU) and Poly Propylene Unit (PPU) + Warehouse, each contributing to the refinery's expansion and technological advancement.

Propylene Powerhouse

We mainly focus on integrating the Indmax Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) Unit and the CR LPG Treater Unit. The primary objective of this unit is to maximize propylene production on a fresh feed basis. With a design feed rate of 2.7 Million Metric Tons per Annum (MMTPA) and an on-stream run time of 8000 hours per year, this unit is a cornerstone of the LuPech(J-18) project.

The next segment of our work, the Propylene Recovery Unit (PRU), includes recovering high-quality propylene from LPG and meeting polymer-grade specifications. With a capacity of 580 TMTPA, the PRU is equipped with long lead and critical items such as Columns, Exchangers, Air Coolers, Pumps, and Compressor Packages.

Pioneering Polymer future

The third segment involves the Poly Propylene Unit (PPU) and a warehouse where the PPU is designed for the production of homopolymers, with provisions for future expansion into binary random copolymers and impact copolymers.

As the refinery continues to innovate and expand its capabilities, it reaffirms its commitment to meeting the energy needs of the vibrant state of Gujarat while adhering to the highest standards of sustainability and technological excellence. With MEIL's crucial contributions, the LuPech(J-18) project is poised to shape the future of the Gujarat Refinery and contribute to the nation's energy landscape.
