Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) has been awarded the agreement by Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd. (ISPRL) for the prestigious Padur Phase–II Crude Oil Underground Storage Cavern Project at Padur, Udupi District, Karnataka.
This historic project marks a significant milestone as India’s first private sector–developed Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).
The full project title is “Deployment and operations of 2.5 MMT capacity commercial-cum-strategic petroleum reserves including dedicated Single Point Mooring (SPM) and associated on-shore and off-shore pipelines at Padur-II, District Udupi, Karnataka, on a DBFOT basis under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.”
The project scope includes construction of underground crude oil storage caverns, development of water curtains, access tunnels and vertical shafts, execution of on-shore and off-shore pipeline works, and establishment of a Single Point Mooring (SPM) system.
The Padur Phase–II SPR will play a crucial role in strengthening India’s energy security by enhancing readiness for crude oil supply challenges while supporting both strategic and commercial requirements.
