MEIL Group has been awarded a contract by The Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) for the construction of the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project in Kalahandi district, Odisha. A landmark clean energy initiative, the project will strengthen grid stability, support renewable energy integration and enhance long-term energy security for the state.
The project will utilise the existing Indravati reservoir as the upper reservoir, while a new lower reservoir will be constructed near Ranibahal village, around 0.5 km from the existing Upper Indravati Power House at Mukhiguda.
The underground powerhouse will house four generating units of 150 MW each, based on advanced reversible pump-turbines. Expected to generate nearly 919 million units of electricity annually, the project will play a pivotal role in balancing variable renewable inputs and ensuring dependable power supply during peak periods.
