In a landmark move toward strengthening India’s energy independence, MEIL Energy Private Limited, a subsidiary of Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL Group), has acquired a 250 MW lignite-based power plant in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, from Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA).
This acquisition marks a major milestone in MEIL Group’s transformation — from being one of India’s largest and most diversified EPC powerhouses, to becoming an integrated developer, owner, and operator of core infrastructure assets.
The Neyveli power plant has a proven track record of delivering reliable and efficient energy to the state of Tamil Nadu. With a long-term power offtake agreement and consistent operational excellence, it plays a vital role in meeting the region’s growing energy needs.
By integrating this plant into its expanding energy portfolio, MEIL now strengthens its presence across the entire power value chain from generation and transmission to renewables and oil & gas.
