In a complex multimodal operation, four process columns, together weighing about 1,669 tonnes and measuring up to 76 metres in length, have completed an extraordinary journey from Dahej Port, Gujarat, to Simaria Ghat in Bihar. These columns will be installed as part of the new Propylene Recovery Unit at IOCL’s Barauni Refinery. The movement reflects MEIL Group’s ability to execute complex refinery infrastructure with precision, planning and safe delivery.

Too large and heavy for road or rail transport, the columns were moved through a carefully planned sea-and-river route. Of the total journey of more than 2,780 nautical miles about 2,396 nautical miles were covered by sea from Dahej Port to Haldia’s Diamond Harbour, while more than 385 nautical miles were completed on the Ganga upstream to Simaria Ghat.

The four columns include Splitter 1 at 76 metres, 7.5 metres in diameter and 580 tonnes; Splitter 2 at 75 metres, 7.5 metres in diameter and 525 tonnes; a 51.2-metre-long, 210-tonne Depropanizer; and a 56-metre-long, 354-tonne De-ethanizer.

The successful movement of these over-dimensional columns to Barauni refinery reflects the strength of detailed planning, disciplined execution and close coordination across every stage of the journey. It is a strong demonstration of MEIL Group’s capability to deliver complex hydrocarbons infrastructure safely and efficiently.
