MEIL is constructing solar projects that not only provide green power, but also offer economic viability to farmers. By embracing renewable energy, we are creating an environment-friendly solution while reducing costs for farmers. Join us as we pave the way towards a sustainable future.
The PM KUSUM scheme was launched by the Government of India in 2019 through the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to promote the use of solar power for agricultural purposes. This initiative aims to reduce farmers' reliance on diesel pumps and increase their income by generating surplus electricity.
The scheme includes solarising 15 lakh grid-connected agriculture pumps, allowing farmers to solarize their existing pumps up to 8 HP. Feeder Level Solarization is also part of the initiative.
At MEIL, we are committed to bringing clean, affordable solar energy to everyone. As a step in that direction, we have undertaken two crucial projects under KUSUM initiative in Maharashtra and Karnataka respectively. The projects are currently at a nascent stage. However, we are working relentlessly to complete the projects by the end of this year.
Under the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd initiative in Maharashtra, 404 substations with a total capacity of 1880 MW cover regions like Akola, Nanded, Kolhapur, Satara, Sambhajinagar, Washim, Jalgaon, Jalna, and Buldhana.
Similarly, in Karnataka, there are 88 substations with a total capacity of 688.6 MW, serving areas including Bangalore Rural, Ramanagara, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Chitradurga, Davanagere, and Tumkur. We are also constructing the Saundatti Solar Power project for Greenco in this state.
