At the Polavaram project , the crucial Earth-Cum-Rock Fill Dam (ECRF) construction preparations began on Thursday with the removal of stored water between the upper and lower cofferdams. Polavaram Project Executive Engineer D. Srinivas and General Manager Gangadhar performed a puja at the dewatering site before the process began. After the ceremony, specially arranged motors were used to start pumping out the water.

For the construction of Gap 1 at the Polavaram project, it is essential to keep the water level low in the area between the upper and lower cofferdams. Currently, the water level there is above 16 meters. Dewatering will continue until the level drops below 15 meters. Immediately after, the construction of Gap 1 as part of the ECRF will begin.
At present, earth excavation work is underway in the Gap 1 construction area to prepare for the next phase. Powerful motors are being used to reduce the stored water levels. In total, 180 motors with a capacity of 80 horsepower each are planned for use in dewatering. Already, 86 motors have been prepared, and on the first day, dewatering started with 15 motors. Our team is planning to increase the number of motors gradually to speed up the dewatering process.
