In a transformative step for agriculture in Telangana, water from the Sita Rama Lift Irrigation Project was released As of July 12, 2025. marking a moment of joy and hope for farmers in Khammam district in the Kharif season.
The Godavari water was first released through the pump house at BG Kothuru, near Aswapuram in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Developed by MEIL Group, this advanced facility is situated on SRLIP’s main canal and features six high-capacity Francis turbine pumps, each with 25 MW capability.
These turbines have successfully lifted water from the Godavari River at the Dummugudem Anicut, marking a key milestone of this ambitious multi-stage lift irrigation project.
Designed to provide irrigation to more than 7 lakh acres of farmland in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Mahabubabad districts, SRLIP will be instrumental during the current agricultural season and beyond.
The Sita Rama Lift irrigation project is envisioned to irrigate up more than 7 lakh acres of farmland by delivering 70 TMC of water for agricultural, industrial, and domestic use. This milestone reinforces Telangana’s commitment to enhancing agriculture and stands as a testament MEIL's capability in building irrigation projects.
