Ganga Jal Aapurti Yojana, A Flowing Hope for Bihar
Ganga Jal Aapurti Yojana

The Ganga Jal Aapurti Yojana is a beacon of hope to the Southern part of Bihar, which has been grappling with water scarcity due to over-extraction and pollution. This ambitious project, the largest in the state, aims to provide treated Ganga water to Nalanda, Gaya, and Nawada.

The project's inception was driven by the pressing need to address the region's water crisis. Excessive dependence on groundwater has led to depletion and contamination, posing a significant threat to public health.

By harnessing the abundant flood waters of Ganga, the Ganga Jal Aapurti Yojana offers a sustainable solution. The engineering marvel behind this project is equally impressive. The construction involved building intake pump houses, detention tanks, reservoirs, and water treatment plants across the region. Over 152 kilometres of pipelines were laid to transport the treated water to the beneficiaries.
Despite the challenges posed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was completed on time, a testament to the dedication and perseverance of MEIL.

The Ganga Jal Aapurti Yojana is more than just a transformative water supply project; which goes far beyond serving its purpose, it is a symbol of hope for Bihar. The project has remarkably improved public health by providing access to clean drinking water, boosting economic development by supporting industries, tourism, and agriculture, and protecting the environment by reducing reliance on groundwater.

This project is a testament to the state's commitment to sustainable development and its ability to overcome challenges to ensure the well-being of its citizens. As Bihar continues to grow and develop, the Ganga Jal Aapurti Yojana will serve as a vital lifeline, providing a sustainable and reliable water source for future generations.
