Kadana - Water Project for Rural Gujarat
Two-thirds of the population in Gujarat depends on the river Narmada water, for drinking and agriculture. This river is a lifeline for Gujarat and has been experiencing a record water deficit for some time. The State Government has set up a lift irrigation scheme at the Kadana reservoir located on Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan borders. Water is abundantly available in this reservoir and will be diverted for cultivation and to meet the drinking water requirements whenever there is a water shortage in the Narmada.
The Kadana project is significant for the State. This project provides irrigation and drinking water to the eastern districts bordering Gujarat. Water is lifted from the Kadana and pumped into the River Mahisagar, and from there, the water is pumped into the Narmada The MEIL constructed pump houses one and three and installed 16 machines in each pump house. The capacity of each motor is 5,826 cubic meters per hour.
