Know About Meil

Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) is a $5bn multi-sector infrastructure company from India taking giant strides globally.

Mission Bhagiratha: Telangana’s Lifeline
Mission Bhagiratha Drinking Water

With, MEIL executing “Mission Bhagiratha” in Telangana, the project has solved a plethora of problems faced by rural women. The purified water supplied by MEIL has mitigated the fluoride and diarrhea problems faced by the people of Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts.

Mission Bhagiratha project in Telangana has alleviated the drinking water problems of a vast rural population. The company has built a major chunk of the project to supply safe drinking water through a piped network to each household in Warangal, Khammam, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy, Mahbubnagar, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, and Medak districts.

The project has eased the drinking water problems faced by the households of Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts. Previously, women from these places would walk long distances to fetch water, which prevented them from engaging in gainful employment. Moreover, the contaminated water caused illnesses like fluoride and diarrhoea, which affected people for ages. The project has mitigated these problems. As a result, the people there no longer depend on water drawn from deep bore wells and have combatted the illnesses caused by contaminated water.

A Pioneer In Drinking Water Schemes

The MEIL, which has hands-on experience in executing mega drinking water schemes under EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) mode over the years, has undertaken Mission Bhagiratha in Telangana.

Project Execution

• In Gajwel, it has completed the water grid ahead of schedule. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, inaugurated the Mission Bhagiratha scheme in Komatibanda of Gajwel on August 7, 2016.

• While MEIL has been maintaining the facilities for over a decade, a ‘“nil” complaint from the end-users reflects the company’s ability to execute critical projects with pride.

• A network of 1.5-lakh-kilometres of the pipeline has been laid.

Types of Pipes Used

All the pipes used in this mega drinking water project have been manufactured in MEIL’s manufacturing units located in Hyderabad. Pipes such as Mild Steel (MS), Ductile Iron (DI), High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP), Bar wrapped Steel Cylinder Pipe (BWSCP) have been used in Mission Bhagiratha works. Huge-sized MS and DI pipes have been installed linking villages with the mainline.

Overcoming Challenges

Water sourced from the intake well is pumped to either an overhead tank or a reservoir, from where it is distributed to villages through pipes or tankers. Furthermore, a comprehensive water supply system is being set up, which includes water treatment plants, reservoirs, tanks, and an extensive pipeline network, ultimately supplying potable water directly to households.

The parts of the project works undertaken by the engineering and infra major include Paleru, Pusur, Wyra, Manthani-Bhupalpalli, AKBR Nalgonda, Yellur-Mahbubnagar, SRSP-Adilabad, Korutla-Karimnagar, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Peddapalli, Ramagundam, Singur-Jukkal, Mangampet in Warangal, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) Lower Manair Dam (LMD), Parkal, and  Medchal.
